Nine years of Naviar

Very happy to continue my collaborations with Naviar Records and see a few of my tracks from last year included with their latest compilation.

Music for The Lost World

Seven years of Naviar Haiku

Great to be part of the Naviar Records community and appear on their recent compilation.

SING!

Some time ago I challenged myself to record an album with vocals.

It's taken a while to get comfortable with the idea of sharing it, but that distance has let me observe there's a wide variety of styles among the tracks.

I'm grateful to US music educator and blogger Ethan Hein for remixing 'Prime' which was recorded for a Disquiet Junto project, as well as producer Laura "DJ Pnutz" Bolokoski for her amazing remix of the track 'Alright'.

I also found inspiration in the writing of Alicia Boyd and Ash Bond, and appreciated getting the perspectives of David Graham, Ian Joyce and Dan "Long Distance" Larkin.

Other tracks were responses to Naviar Records' haiku prompts, including 'Ghostly Melody' which was composed from my senryu poems.

The video for that song was recorded at Leeton's swimming pool and will be part of an online art exhibition organised by Dubbo-based artist Kim Goldsmith next month.

The album SING ends with an electro-metal hybrid which was written after reading a front page article in Griffith's The Area News (but then exaggerated).

As someone who loves music and writing, I had to give songwriting a go.

6 years of Naviar Haiku

Yellowstone

There's a bit about my track 'Grizzly Beat' on the Cities and Memory website.

Different Use

Great to be part of another Shinobi Cuts remix chain

It starts and ends with tracks by MDK, who was on the Spymania label (early home to Cassetteboy, Squarepusher and Jamie Lidell).

Shinobi Cuts is a nod to Ninja Tune. who used to have a forum on their website where these remix chains started early this century.

Five years of Naviar Haiku

Four years later

3 Years of Naviar Haiku

A couple of my favourite tracks from last year are on here.

Naviar Haiku 7

I've a track on this new compilation by Naviar Records.

It's an older song called 'Windy Bases' that was recorded around the time I made my track for the last Shinobi Cuts Remix Chain and sharing a glitchy aesthetic -- possibly even the same bass part.

I'm a bit surprised it was chosen for this release but I've come to realise I have a different relationship to my music than a listener does. It's like how Eno explains his concept of 'scenius', in that artists aren't necessarily the best judges of their own work.

Naviar Series 006

The new Naviar Records compilation includes a slinky house track I wrote in 3/4 time signature. Download it here.

Here's a beaut review of the album and it singles out my track for a mention. Nice!

AND a new album

Here's a collection of tracks recorded in 2013-14, including a number inspired by Disquiet Junto projects and also a couple that resulted from Naviar haikus. (Coincidentally, Naviar have a track of mine on their new compilation.)

You'll hear that there's a lot of variety, from funky instrumentals to electropunk with cut-up lyrics and a few songs featuring the voice of Jo.

There was a lot of material to choose from, with tracks made from storytime at the library, a boiling kettle as well as a playground and then an assortment of instruments. I'll write something about each next month.

See above for a playlist of 13 videos for some tracks from AND, my collection recorded 2013-14.

Schemawound visits Gossamer Park

Awesome remix by Schemawound. Below is the original.

And here is a remix by me, when I returned to the original recordings in 2013 ahead of screenings to conclude the centenary of Leeton and the For 100 Years project.

Album In A Day

My track High Coo Unplugged is at number 21.

My sometime collaborator Lee Rosevere, who suggested I get involved, put together this video for his track.

New Weird Australia

My track 'Having a Barney' appears on the new compilation from New Weird Australia. Looking forward to hearing the other contributions.

WHILE

Here's the first of two recordings I'm publishing on Bandcamp this week. These are 20 of my favourite Junto pieces, from the 36 completed in the first 100 Juntos. It's a mixed bag in terms of genres but it's had a good response from listeners.

Some electronic instrumentals and some rock and some made from things like boiling water, ice in a glass, a ticking wristwatch, an interstellar space recording by the Voyager satellite, handclaps, etc. Only one playground this time :)

Merry Christmas from Clan Analogue

Downloads have been merrily enabled on the Clan Analogue Soundcloud account for festive purposes

Mixes of 2013

Still got a bit over a month to decide on a list of the best mixes of 2013. There's a list for 2012 I put together last year here.

Anyway, as I've been looking through my downloads to share recommendations for a dinner party I thought I'd start a list here;

Suppose I better think about the best Solid Steel mixes because there have been many good ones, including this week. And Laurent Garnier's is good too.

It's not a mix but I really adore Jared Brickman's longplay ambient piano piece Every Day We Are Dying and Outer Space Does Not Give One Single Fuck. I was introduced to it via this Disquiet Junto.
