Gay Frog pedal

Funny to see how many people are saying they weren't quick enough to "jump" on this one!

naviarhaiku544 – out of my dreams

The haiku shared by Naviar was troubling me for days, as I wanted to record but didn't feel it justified the poem.

This weekend I fitted a double-kick pedal to a bongo drum and tuned the bass banjo, then spent days jamming on riffs.

Eventually my partner ventured that it needed something and suggested the frog.

Naviarhaiku 143 - Watching the lightning

The haiku this week reminded me of many evenings during summer watching thunderstorms pass, sometimes at a distance of around 100km.

Despite being fairly flat in the Riverina, sometimes it feels like the sky stretches forever and it's times like when a localised storm is passing through that I can get a sense of that distance by comparing what I see with the view offered by a weather satellite online.

The frogs have been breeding among the many puddles recently. We haven't seen a thunderstorm for a while but it does look like it's going to be a wet summer with all of the increased risks that go with that, from mosquito numbers to fire risks when the grasses dry out with the heat.

This recording was made while waiting to film the flooding at Widgelli this week.

Naviarhaiku105 - Through the ages

The haiku shared by Naviar Records describes the moon and the sense of being part of something bigger, like the movements of the solar system. It got me thinking about things that move us, and I'll spare youse a discussion of horoscopes by going to the base, like sex.

Actually, it was thinking about the moon that reminded me of a line I'd improvised while singing on the way to work. So I added a few more words and got this verse:
Moonlight knock on my window and it call me
into the night where the frogs are performing
calling a mate with a song because they're horny
listen and you'll hear them sing until early morning
Baby, baby. Won't you come to me?

While on holiday

There was a creek crossing near where I was camping in southern Queensland. It had a pipe that made a droning kinda gurgle. I noticed that there seemed to be a few frogs around and wondered if they were attracted by the noise.

River sounds

These are excerpts from a recording to accompany an exhibition called Re-imagining the Murrumbidgee that'll open in Leeton this December. This will be my first release using my given name.

I was excited to be involved in this project as I've lived near this river most of my life, from being born on the tributary Molonglo River at Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra and then moving to Wagga Wagga and now Leeton in the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area.

On average the body of an adult human being contains 60% water. Since I've been drinking water from this river and its tributaries pretty much all my life, the Murrumbidgee is a significant part of me.

Keen ears will recognise the sound of frogs, who featured in a Disquiet Junto piece last month.
