In some ways, I don’t think of my writing and music as being separate pursuits. I’ve always felt that my songs and my stories came from the same emotional place. That said, my music was much more about pure self-expression, and when I began to write fiction, the biggest challenge was facing all these questions about narrative and plot and character. You can get away with being much more abstract in a song.
